Is Rogers Roam Like Home Worth It?
Is Rogers Roam Like Home Available In The USA?
Yes, Rogers Roam Like Home is available in the USA. In fact, you can use Rogers roam like home in the United States, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands. All for only $7 per day. You can read more here on how Rogers Roam Like Home works.
If you wish to travel to the US , you could use your phone there without having to incur huge phone bills like when you use Rogers Roam Like Home. I travel a lot to the U.S.A and so I need to use something to save me money other than the Rogers Roam Like Home which costs $7 per day. I think that’s a lot of money to have to pay for to use your phone for one day.
With this said, for the U.S, your best option would be to use the T-Mobile Prepaid SIM card. Again, you could purchase this online through Amazon.
The T-Mobile prepaid SIM card comes with unlimited talk, text, and data in the US. And you are able to use 5 GB data in Canada and Mexico for 20 days. Just to let you know, you can only use the data (5GB) in Canada, U.S, or Mexico. So you can’t use the talk in Canada or Mexico only the data.
If for any reason, you require more data, you can choose a plan that fits your needs. Again, you can contact T-mobile through Amazon and see what your options are.
How It Works?
When you purchase this card online through Amazon, you need to send the company an email in order for them to activate it for you. Some people miss out on that, and complain about the card not being activated. Having said that, the card must be activated within 90 days of purchase. And the activation could take up to 24 hours.
Benefits To The T-Mobile Prepaid SIM Card:
- It is a great deal considering what you get for the price.
- Even if you want to use this card in Mexico (data only), you can make calls through VOIP apps back to Canada to stay connected with friends and family.
- If you encounter problems while getting the SIM to work, they have great support. They usually get back to you within 24 hours.
- It is a great option if you travel often to the US. It is much cheaper to use than to actually use your Canadian cell carrier roaming plans. Rogers charges $7 per day if you want to use your cell phone in the US. However, with this card, you can use it for less than that.
- You can actually use this card while in Canada, but you would need to check with T-mobile first, as you cannot use it in some rural areas in Canada. It worked in Canada when I used it for voice and text as well. It could be the device that you use, so if it’s a newer phone, then you probably can still use the talk, text and data while in Canada.
What You Should Know?
- The T-Mobile Prepaid SIM Card will not work on Mobile WiFi Hotspot (Pocket WiFi).
- If you want to use this card on an iPhone, the iPhone must be an iPhone 6 or newer.
- On the other hand, if you own an Android and wish to use this SIM card, certain brand and dual SIM card phones might not work. You might have to do APN settings, click here for more information on how to do that.
I know that most of these countries above are included in the Rogers Roam Like Home Countries list, but trust me, it would cost you a fortune to use Rogers Roam like home in these countries. For this reason, I highly advise you use an international SIM card, you would save so much.

Options For Using Your Mobile In Australia
As seen above, there are lots of other countries which you cannot use Rogers Roam Like Home in. With this said, if you still wish to use your Rogers phone in the restricted countries, you would be charged the Pay-Per-Use rates.
What Is Pay-Per-Use Rates?
The rates will vary depending on the country you wish to travel to. For instance, if you are going to Cuba, you will be charged $2.50 per minute and $1.50 per MB (That’s a lot of money).
You can click here to check the pay per use rates for more countries. In my opinion, it will cost you a fortune if you want to use your phone in countries that are not covered in the Rogers Roam Like Home. With all this said, here is what you could do: If you are traveling to the below countries, I recommend you purchase an international SIM card.
Regardless of where you are traveling to, please don’t forget to use a SIM card wallet holder so you can store your rogers SIM card in until you come back home. Also, don’t forget to pack an international Travel adapter with you especially if you have more than one device to charge while traveling.
Other Alternatives
If you do not wish to use an International SIM card, you could simply use an unlocked GSM handset when you’re traveling abroad. All you need to do is place a SIM card from a local carrier (country you are traveling to), and make inexpensive local phone calls while you’re in-country, as well as cheap texting to other cell phones in the same country in which you’re traveling.
